Membership Details

Exhibitor Eligibility:

  • 3 - 21 years of age

  • Age is as of Jan. 1st of the current year.

  • Open to residents from all states!

  • Divisions will be created from the exhibitors that have entered into the circuit. Each division will be as even in numbers as possible and will take into consideration the age spread within the division.

Circuit Membership Fee: 

  • The circuit membership is a $25 fee.

    • Each member will receive a t-shirt

    • Each member will receive an additional prize

 

Throughout the 4 shows, members will participate in the various competitions where points (based on how the exhibitor does) are collected. Points are added up for their overall score. Exhibitors can/will be recognized for how they do in each area of competition. Other awards given: 

  • Age division placings

  • Overall circuit winners

Areas of competition:

Participants will compete for points in the following categories:​

  • Market/Breeding Classes

  • Showmanship

  • Skill-a-thon​

  • Judging Contest

    • Points from all categories will add up for the exhibitor's overall score​

    • Exhibitors will be placed in their divisions with top exhibitors receiving an award

    • Top 3 exhibitors in the circuit will also receive an award

    • Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the final show

Points System: 

  • Points will be awarded for each participation and placing in showmanship at each show. Extra points are NOT given for division or overall showmanship champions. (Each showmanship placing is worth 6.25% of an exhibitor’s overall score.)

    • 1st place = 10 points

    • 2nd place = 9 points

    • 3rd place = 8 points

    • 4th place = 7 points

    • 5th place = 6 points

    • Participation = 5 points

  • Points will be awarded for an exhibitor’s highest placing hog (either market or breeding) at each show. If hogs do not place, participation points will be awarded. Extra points are NOT given for breed, division or overall champions. (The highest placing hog for each show is worth 6.25% of an exhibitor’s overall score.)

    • 1st place = 10 points

    • 2nd place = 9 points

    • 3rd place = 8 points

    • 4th place = 7 points

    • 5th place = 6 points

    • Participation = 5 points 

 

Example: An exhibitor shows 2 pigs during one show. Pigs place 2nd and 4th in their respective classes. Exhibitor will keep points for their 2nd place pig.​

  • Points will be awarded for an exhibitor’s participation and score in the skill-a-thon. Tie-breakers will be used in case of a tie. (Skill-a-thon is worth 25% of an exhibitor’s overall score.)

    • The skill-a-thon is a 30 question test.

    • This is an age-based test that asks questions for overall knowledge about swine. Questions can include, but are not limited to: breeds, feeds, quality assurance, ear notching, breeding and pedigree information and meats.

    • A tie breaker section of 5 questions is used in case of ties.

  • Points will be awarded for an exhibitor’s participation and score in the judging contest. (Judging contest is worth 25% of an exhibitor’s overall score.)

    • This contest is an opportunity for exhibitors to try their hand at judging.

    • Two classes for exhibitors to judge: typically one breeding and one market class.

    • Exhibitors are required to answer up to 5 questions per class and will also place each class.

Show Rules

Registration for each show: 

Registration will be ONLINE for each show. 

  • Pre-entry = $30/entry 

  • Late entries = $40/entry 

 

Check-in for each show: 

  • Exhibitors will need to check-in each pig for each show. 

  • All market hogs will be weighed – regardless of barrow/gilt.

  • Pure breeding gilts will be shown by date of birth and cross breeding gilts will be shown by weight.

  • Exhibitors may show cross gilts as both breeding and market but entries for both must be made.

  • Registration papers are REQUIRED. Breed characteristics and papers will be checked. 

 

Showmanship:

  • Any exhibitor can sign-up for showmanship whose age is 3-21 as of the current year.

  • Showmanship will be offered at each show. 

  • Shows will start with showmanship followed by the market/breeding shows. 

 

Market Show: 

  • The market division will be split between barrows and gilts. 

  • No bottom weight limit.

  • Top weight limit for market hogs is 300 pounds. 

  • Breeds will show separate from crosses. All breeds will have a class – there will be no AOB classes.

  • Class premiums to be determined based on number of head shown in each class.

  • Breed champions will be awarded.

  • Top 5 Market Hog will be selected at the conclusion of all classes / breed champion selections. 

 

Breeding Show: 

  • No bottom weight limit.

  • No top weight limit. 

  • Breeds will show separate from crosses. All breeds will have a class – there will be no AOB classes.

  • Class premiums to be determined based on number of head shown in each class.

  • Breed champions will be awarded. 

  • Top 5 Breeding Gilt will be selected at the conclusion of all classes / breed champion selections. 

 

General Information: 

  • Health papers are REQUIRED for all out of state exhibitors

  • No tack pens allowed 

  • No tables set up in main isles of barns for safety reasons
